Karlstad is situated in the middle of the large river delta, surrounded by varied nature. From forest in the north to Lake Vänern in the south, you will certainly find many interesting and exciting things to do. You could, for example, take a boat trip to Vänern archipelago, go fishing, canoeing, water-skiing or just take a swim in the river that runs through the center of town.

 

Furthermore, there is hiking at Gustav Fröding’s path, which connects the lake of Kroppkär with the valley of Alster. There you can visit Alsters Herrgård, the house where Gustav grew up, and is now a café.

 

If you are looking for more city activity, Karlstad offers you many exciting things to do. The rather small town has the pleasures of a big city including lots of shopping, nightclubs and restaurants. Here you can taste several local delicacies like elk roast or salmon from the river Klarälven. In Karlstad, cultural events are happening year-round such as opera, musical and theatre. You can also visit exciting exhibitions about the history of Värmland at the Värmland’s museum. In the summertime, you can enjoy the sculpture exhibition outside the museum in the park. While at the newly built Löfbergs Lila Arena, you can enjoy ice hockey games as well as concerts, shows and other events
